About Alexa Ray Joel
Alexa Ray Joel is an American singer, songwriter and pianist, known for her melodic song writing. She released her debut track, For All My Days in January 2008. She also released her debut Extended Play, Sketches in August 2006. Born on December 29, 1985 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, she is the daughter of supermodel Christie Brinkley and legendary songwriter Billy Joel. She is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent on her father’s side, and of German, Irish, English and Scottish descent on her mother’s side. She enrolled at New York University, where she studied musical theater for a year.
Her father wrote The Downeaster Alexa from 1989 and Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) from 1994 for her. In January 2018, she got engaged to longtime boyfriend Ryan J. Gleason.
She and her father were featured at an October 2008 Hammerstein Ballroom fundraiser for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, singing Baby Grand, which her father originally recorded in 1986 with Ray Charles.
The singer insists she’s had no work done other than a nose job, which she admits to having had done in 2010, and blamed her new look on make-up and a healthy dose of self-confidence.

"I'm 5'3'', and not often you get to see that in a magazine. I think that what is so cool about 'Sports Illustrated' is it's all different body shapes, all difference sizes. You have actresses, sports figures, musicians, so it's all about skin deep beauty sort of radiating to the outside, and that's what's so special."Alexa Ray Joel
"Every time I do a cover, I completely... pick apart - I take apart the entire song and really reconstruct it. I try and make it my own."Alexa Ray Joel
"I worked a long time to get good at what I'm doing, and nobody handed me a recording contract because of who my father is."Alexa Ray Joel
